Excellent! You've no idea how good it is to hear other people doing stuff with the code I've been working on for the last 15 months!

For sharing wavs and mp3's I can't recommend SoundCloud too highly - their interface is great and you can add comments to any part of a tune's timeline.

Will be looking into how to embed SoundCloud players into forum posts at some point in the future.

Ah nice! That'd be great. I'm not entirely sure how soundcloud works, but do you think it'd be possible to have some sort of Nano Studio Users group? Where anyone can post their song, then possibly have a page on the main site that contains a list of all the community's songs. Just an idea, but I think it'd be cool.

And along with you, I hope a lot more users start posting their creations soon!

At some point down the road, I'd love to see a NS Mixtape. It would be great for showing people what this app can really do! I currently use BandCamp for my tracks but this may force me to get a SoundCloud account. Totally worth it though.

This is my first song! It's really just a beat and me playing with a guitar synth for 5 minutes.

My first song with NanoStudio, it isn't anything mind blowing, just a first attempt, some quick trance.
Not too long either, but it gave me a good way to really get familiar with the app.

no post mastering either, direct output.
I will have to master and compare.

Distraub, very nice for a quick and dirty. I'm amazed at how *good* the sound quality is for a direct export from an iDevice.

Blip, you really did a great job with the sound quality of the Eden Synth/TRG-16 and the overall sound quality of the mixer and effects busses.

Yep that's turned out well. I'm detecting some custom presets and controller automation unless I've vastly mistaken!

Jury's out on whether there's any resampling in there, I suspect no?

no resampling, custom presets (well I just modified the factory ones a bit) love the sound of EDEN, I need an EDEN vst, and midi export in nanostudio, that would be incredible, from pocket to DAW to wrap it up, and add a few more tracks :)

oh and right, parameter automation... I am a sucker for filter sweeps.

Could try resampling a single bar and doing some stutter breaks with it if you're feeling brave.

Sweet! It's a shame the LFO's don't have a 3/8 setting for dubstep basses.

Created a group called "nanostudio" (no capitals... @Blip: do you prefer "Nanostudio" or "nanostudio"?) at SoundCloud. Need a lot of time to make some useful music though, because I'm not a musician and I usually totally suck at making music :-P

I've been using NanoStudio but I don't really mind to be honest. Your version needs 2 less shift keys for lazy people.

I just noticed that the free part of Soundcloud is limited and you have to pay to get more... Even though I will probably never reach Soundcloud's limits, I don't like being limited :-P so I went out on a Google Search (ok ok I just googled "Soundcloud alternative") and found some interesting things...

bandcamp.com
mixcloud.com
fairtilizer.com

Does anyone know any other alternatives, and what are your opinions on these? :-P

I'm using bandcamp from now on. When signing up, you can decide which Genres you belong to, and you can name them freely, so this is more or less like a group system (you can search for people belonging to the same genre). I'll add "NanoStudio" as my genre. Feel free to do so, too ;-)

Problem with facebook is that it requires flash to play sound files, and... um... well, you know why that won't work for sharing songs made with iDevices, right?

@eatbeat + @klic - here's a raw dump of my attempts to play the non-video files on that Facebook page at this timestamp. Tried this in Mobile Safari on my iPad.

Fair warning, I irrationally hate FaceBook, lol. Way too spammy, ugly, and ad-riddled for my tastes, so yes, I'm biased against FaceBook as "common ground" for sharing music projects/info.

First wall entry is a bug report in jpeg form. Why?
2nd entry is somebody spamming their drum loops library. Why?
3rd entry is some other dude spamming his site URL. Why?
4th entry is an ad from Blip Interactive for NanoStudio in the form of an entertaining and useful video. I'll let that one slide.
5th entry is a YouTube video link. Fair enough.
6th entry is a YouTube video link. Fair enough.
7th is a Facebook embedded audio by Prism, which displays "Flash Player upgrade required" on Mobile Safari. I don't believe for one moment that klic successfully played this on his iPhone unless it's jailbroken and he's loaded up the "Frash" hack.
8th is a SoundCloud embedded audio by Christopher Crawford, which takes you to a SoundCloud page and the file plays fine.
9th is a MediaFire embedded link by (unknown), which when opened gives me a crap mediafire page trying to auto-open a popup, which when allowed takes me to a stupid spammy YouTube video about Erik Estrada. OMGWTFBBQ?

So out of 9 entries, 1 has nothing to do with "sharing music", 2 are outright ad spam and a fourth is a browser hijack. And the Facebook-native audio is unplayable because it requires Flash, as I pointed out above. That's 5 crap, worthless entries versus 4 good ones. That's a terrible "success" ratio.

Frak FaceBook, and frak MediaLiar. ;-)

I guess what I'm saying ^.^ is please let's use some other venue than FaceBook.

@klic - on a more positive note, I really like your Soar and Loungin' tracks on soundcloud. How did you get them both normalized so loud? At a glance, they both look compressed/normalized to somewhere around -3db or less, from looking at the waveform in the SoundCloud player, anyway. Did you do any post-processing/compression on the .wav before uploading to SoundCloud? Does SoundCloud automatically perform some compression/normalization when you upload files to it? If it came straight out of NanoStudio export that normalized, I'm duly impressed!

@DecypherAllstar/FEDUPify - Very nice hiphop/downtempo hybrid. Great dynamics. Whistle'n is one of my favorite "lead" presets in NanoStudio, lol. Sits perfect in your mix. Are you using Pulse Bass for your bass line or Lekky Bass, or some custom variation of those? Your bass seems to have a little something extra I don't remember hearing in those, but maybe it's just the 808 sinekick coloring the bass feel.

Hahaha, the mediafire link was my song. As for popups and Erik Estrada (what the fuhh), I typically use mediafire because I have no way of hosting, and mediafire has the least ads and popups for me, along with no "Wait 60 seconds to download!". But I guess it's because Firefox has an adblocker and such. Guess I should get a soundcloud account.

Oh, and klic, your second song is probably my favorite I've seen from NanoStudio so far! So chill. I can dig it.

Hey! Thanks for the compliment regarding the first track... yea I love Whistle'n. I using Lekky Bass for the bass line, its just colored with a little bit of the I'm Scared to add atmosphere and to full up the track in a space age way.. :O) Thanks Again. I'll put it on my upcoming album..

@shannong using the facebook app got rid of any necessity for flash. Thanks about the songs, I didn't do anything special in NanoStudio, however I did import the song to iTunes in order to convert to MP3, but listening to the wav file and the mp3 file, the volumes are the same.

@somelamp Thanks!

Speaking of songs, here's my third!

Oops, I missed this thread when I first posted my new song:

http://tarekith.com/mp3s/Tarekith-Slat.mp3

This track was done entirely entirely on an iPhone 4 using NanoStudio. No additional post-processing aside from normalization was done once the file was exported from NanoStudio. This is by far the best music app for the iOS platform I've used yet, fun and powerful at the same time. Huge respect Matt, you're making musicians everywhere extremely happy with all your hard work. Much thanks!

Nice track, Tarekith. I like the hi-hat work especially and the overall dynamics and sound stage. Were you able to hit those HH patterns in real time on your iPhone or did you need to tweak the timing a bit in the Part Editor? After 7 years behind a drum set at one point in my career, it's always so hard for me to create the expressiveness I want in pad-based or keyboard-based drum lines. I end up spending way too much time tweaking the note/velocity data in the editor after the fact. Or wasting way too much time trying to use 8 different samples for one "instrument" in the drum set, lol.

Yeah, the HH's were done in real time, though I think I did have to go back and fix one bum note. Actually all the sounds were played live in that tune, one thing I love about NanoStudio is how easy it is to do this.

That's a pretty good idea. I was halfway through changing the demo mp3s over to SoundCloud on the Media page - then the app got released, and strangely I forgot about it. Will look into it.

Vingdoloras created a "nanostudio" group on SoundCloud either yesterday or the day before. Not many of us have seen/joined it it, but it's there for anyone to join. Not sure if the following link will work for you if you don't have a registered account, but it's easy to do and even a free account can do a lot for you. SoundCloud is pretty cool overall, I like their various widgets for embedding into FB or websites or emailing people links to your stuff, etc. Also everything always plays back well on iDevices in Mobile Safari, and they even have a (somewhat weak at the moment) dedicated SoundCloud app for only 99 cents.
