You are right,I'm thinking Blip just going straight to his way and jusd coding what he planning, the wishlists are just users ideas but at the same time they are a great positve feedback to the developer.

These is my last request:MAKE ISTANT HIT BUTTON ;-)

Just poked my head out from another massive Nanostudio session; this thing is awesome :)

Two feature requests I'd love to see (but would understand if they never saw the light of day)

1) Step LFO! I'd love to draw some steps in for rhythmic stuff, setting values for each step numerically is fine if easier than visual steps.
2) An arpeggiator... Could you do this by a simple ARP ON button, with a number control for you to choose what Pattern would be used for the Arp? Then keyboard input would transpose this pattern. (eg you make a part in the sequencer, promote it to a pattern, then in Eden enable Arp and choose that pattern number. Then any keyboard input in Eden triggers / transposes the pattern as needed) one nice thing about this method is you could create a pattern that consisted of just notes alternating on octaves, and controller data... Controller data would mean this could work like an LFO.

I just think that might be a cool way to make an arp work in Nanostudio.

An arpeggiator's on the list - I was half thinking of doing it as sequencer patterns when I get round to it.

I'd like to do a programmable LFO too, if it can be fitted in easily - I'll add it to the list. Of course, a similar effect could be done using the same sequencer based pattern arpeggiator (using control events instead of notes) so maybe these are subsets of the same thing!

I want to emphasize my vote for a scrollable keyboard. Check out NLog to see it done well.

I don't think nlog is doing it right, I want to be able to swipe over the keys without dragging them with me, but I want to transpose it while playing though.

Havent read everything so appologies if I'm repeating. Also only had the app a few hours.

If I save synth settings I want to be able to use the settings in other projects. Is this possible? without saving over a global preset Can you load presets from other projects?

A sliding keyboard would annoy me , the curent system works well for me. NLogs system has its downsides as mentioned above.

That aside better LFO control and an Arpeggiator but that's been mentioned loads already.

On a side note
I wetting my self with excitment at the thought of being able to trigger samples and use the XY control pads when playing live.

Currently the route to share presets is to write them to the global bank. I was going to leave some blank spaces for doing this so you don't have to choose between which preset to wipe but I filled them all up in the end.

In the next version there's a bank C, which will contain 64 empty presets for this purpose. In the meantime, find a crap global preset or few you don't like and use those!

cheers for quick reply!! bring on bank C!!

also what about sidechaining. It may be because i'm new to the app but whats the easiest way to get a my basslines volume to reduce when the kick drum is playing?

an eq on the synth would be handy too though I guess the filters do a fine job of that.

cheers for the app and the fair price tag! I've already convinced a bunch of friends that they need it in their lives!

The nearest you can get to an EQ on the synth is to use the contour control on the waveshaper, which is a fairly crude bass/treble emphasis but can get you out of a tight spot. If you don't want any actual waveshaping, set it to 'EQ Only'.

Some compression and sidechaining would be good, particularly for house tunes. I'd definitely like to add it in future along with a proper track EQ, although these features may have to be for those with newer hardware because there's a lot going on already.

This would make me leave Ableton Live:

1. Scene triggers.
-example: touch the info screen on top to get say 6 loop sections in its place. Ergonomics over quantity though.
2. Midi interface support!!! I can smell it already..
3. Eden: One click assign anything to lfos, xy pads, etc = less cumbersome fiddling with the mod matrix. -like Surge VST.
4. A 64 step arpeggiator /step modulation midi plug, one click assignable to anything.
5. Eden tracks: Midi/Audio combo tracks. Why not have both in one track, it saves screen space.
-Click midi parts of choice in the track and render in place, with tails.
6. TRG 16: more parameters, like Eden. In fact why not also give it 2x XY pads and so on?
7. Eden: different colors on the 4 synths.
8. Eden: more mod matrix sources.
9. TRG 16: Triplets in Autobeat. And perhaps fader instead of knob!
10. Sidechain anything!

"Yep I think there's plenty of scope on the bottom half of the Eden pages for some alternative controllers, arpeggiators, that sort of thing. And as you say, these input methods suit the size of the screen very well. What I can't get straight in my head at the moment is how the control system would work to select between them. It needs to be accessible yet nowhere near the playable area to avoid being hit during some crazed jamming."

Do like Bebot: fullscreen XY strings, with only a little button in the corner: tap it two times to open the menu. I never hit it by accident!

"I always wondered if I should be utilising the text area on the status bar more for touch gestures - preset up/down would be a classic. The problem I had with that was always how to visually point the user to that function (ie text needs to go there so there's no room for any sort of button graphic or obviously 'tappable' thing)."
Touch and hold status bar displays arrows; now drag left or right?

"okay Blip, i played in Gimp a little bit and tried to make some sketch of my dream functionalities for EDEN oscillator section, specially how they can be placed when not much place is there :-) and i get this idea, maybe this can inspire you :-)"

Nice! What about displaying the osc waveforms name, instead of "osc 1, 2, 3" on the tabs? Then youd see at once all the osc waveforms. I got the Virus Ti too. The old Virus B interface was a lot less cluttered with less menus and so on.

Hello Blip and Fellows,

first of all - very impressive work you did there - its really amazing whats possible with these little powerfull iDevices.

I have a lot ideads, many of them had others too, so they were mentioned before, but i write them down again, to strengthen up the need of them ;)

I know, its hard to add many features and keep the interface as clean as it is, and CPU power is limited too, but i think theres still alot potential.

- Sample the Synths - that would be awesome, lets say you create a patch, you throw in some notes in the piano roll, and you could record this to one of the TRG pads. It would be possible to make a lot more use of the internal synths in a track.
- Phase-Shift for LFOs
- Arpeggiator/Gates
- Compressor with Sidechaining (for each track would be best)
- Another TRG16, so you can add 32 samples in total
- Midi-Export (in work, i know :))
- Export each track in a single file at once
- Second Filter for Eden Synths (if possible, CPU wise)
- Notch Filter and Comb Filter would be awesome
- FM between Oscillators
- EQs for each track
- More tracks on Mixer
- a 3rd Ooscillator (but 2 is quite OK, i would prefer a second filter instead of another Osc!)

Interface space thoughts:

LFO Section:
You can make the LFO switching thing smaller, remove these 4 lights, place a LCD-like display over the top of the LFO switch.
LFO-Wave-Switch - dont write "Saw down" etc, show a little graphic!
IMO this would be still very user friendly and would free up alot of space for one more knob (Phase Shift for example)

Compressor:
you could add another Tab after the FX section, so lets say a second FX section for each synth.

Mixer:
Well - if its possible to have 32 Sample channels in total, this would be a lot mixer channels to handle with in this little interface.
Lets say you place 8 channels on one page, then there would be a need of 5 mixer pages (4 with sample channels, and one page for the synths)

You could add on the left and right side a little Button to switch to the next mixer section. OR
If you tap the main menu button, the menu comes up, and it only uses around 60% of the screen, so if you add an extra line just for the mixer sections, then you can jump fast to any mixer page. I think here is a bit space for some other things too.

More thoughts:

Automation:
Maybe you should think of a automation possibility like in Logic Studio, with curves and so on, double tap to create a dot which you can drag around. Interface wisely etc. i didnt thought this to the end, but it might be a bit more comfortable, and maybe you can build something up on this.

Directory sharing:
I know there seem to be some issues from Apple's side.
But yesterday i red on Amidio that they will release a new ioLibrary, this will be used to share files between apps. And they wrote they will share the sourcecode. Maybe you will inform you in this direction too and maybe you can hook up on this.

All this will get really powerfull if you can combine more Apps together and share files easily between the Apps.

Im really curious about it in which way this all will go. Theres ALOT potential.

Thanks alot for this very nice App, you are on the right way. Its really cool that you respond very frequently on the threads here, that shows that you are interested in the thoughts of your user community. Thats very important.

Greetings from Germany

Lots of good ideas there - an unusually, you've also thought about the user interface too (in general the extra features are much easier than the interface which goes with them).

You can sample the synths in the way you describe now - on the TRG-16, tap edit, tap a free pad and then use the resample button.

Individual track export (and part export) is coming in the next update.

It won't make it into this update, but a future update will definitely have mixer panning, track EQ and extra effects. I'll make the mixer more like Eden for navigation, with two buttons to go up and down the strip, and two buttons to go left and right if more mixer tracks are needed.

The rest has been noted in some way or other!

You are fast, nice.

Thanks for that note regarding resampling, this one i missed :D I saw the resampling thing, but i thought its just for resampling the samples of the pads itself. Next time ill look closer ;)

You may have already thought of this as its sounds kind of obvious.

How about just adding to the patch description: < Eden 1 : A.39 Keep it Simple >

The greater/less than signs are enough for me to want to gesture left or right.

@diex Yes that might work. The only problem I can see is that you'd want to show these graphically as some sort of button (otherwise they'd just look like brackets around all preset names). But you don't really want the touch area on these buttons at all - it's too close to the main menu button and the stop/reset button. If you moved the touch area in to prevent this problem, then some people would tap on them and think they don't work.

Just want to add my 2c. I also think this has the most potential out of all the other apps I have tested. As a musician I have a few things to add..

1. Audio tracks.. this has been mentioned plenty of times already..

2. Import itunes song to sample pad. I'm surprised this isn't already available - my guess is apple don't allow it.

3. Edit samples like in ableton with warp markers and start/end points.

K that's all from me.

the more I use nanostudio, the more I would appreciate another global bank for Eden presets for storing my own favorite sounds for re- use in other songs without overwriting a factory preset. I seem to recall reading that this might be coming in the future, but I can't find the post. anyway, that would be really awesome for building up my personal arsenal of sweet eden sounds.

Yep I didn't add it to the proper update schedule because I wasn't sure if I'd get the time, but there's an (initially empty) global bank C in the next update.

Apols if already mentioned but I’d like to see:

1) Magnifying class above finger if you grab a hold of something to extend a loop, a clip etc. Sometimes I cannot see what I am grabbing, if I have grabbed something, as my finger has obscured the view.
2) Render pattern as WAV. So it can be used in the drum pad, thereby saving a vital Eden slot. Useful since I’m using a synth at the moment where I just play the one note! Perhaps the ability not to just render as a wav but render and directly assign to the specified pad.
3) Scales sound awesome! I take it marks up the keys with a designated scale? This would be great as part of a learning process as I kind of just feel my way around!
4) I don’t know if this was me just having issues, but I wanted a ¾ pattern on a 4/4 track. A lot of James Holden/Luke Abbott stuff is working 8 bitty ¾ loops over a nice thunking 4/4 techno beat. Would love to emulate that sort of thing.

You'd be best of doing number 2 using the trigger pads. Mute the tracks you don't want, then go to the TRG-16 and do Edit->Choose Pad->Resample. Set the loop points to those of your pattern and then resample.

So after spending some time with nanostudio I've revised my wishlist. I've also taken into consideration what's being done on update 1. (this is in no particular order)

1. In the sequencer window I'd like the option to have a flam setting. This is so it could be done on a per step basis. (a la bhajis loops)

2. Audio Recording section needs some sort of visual meter to see if the source sound is clipping. *very important

3. A second TRG module with unique Bus settings (bus 4,5,6)

4. Apply separate autobeat settings to the TRG pads. (instead of a global)

5. Allow offbeats with the autobeat.

6. Ability to monitor incoming audio (this is fine if the sequencer needs to stop)

7. A compressor FX

8. A sample offset setting in the sequencer window (a la bhajis loops once again)

9. A proper arppegiator for Eden

An example of the flam and offset features can be seen demo'd here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLOaVRb8R8I

I don't know if this was covered, but having the ability to start up the app with an empty project would be helpful, instead of only having the auto save and my save as, as the only option to starting a new song.. I get the feeling I'm storing a bunch of samples multiple times across multiple projects cus they might be unused in the new project I begin, after clearing the auto/my save....

Also a "tune" mode for the pads.. Although you can do it now on eden, I don't want to give up possible synth parts and tracks to my samples just so I can pitch them in sequence.. I need my samples on the pads just as any other pad based sampler can...

But above all requests, fix the interpolation issue.. If the interpolation was the only thing possible to change, I'd be content...

The ability to merge two segments on the song editor screen would be awesome. As there are only 2 drum tracks, this would go some way in solving the restriction. eg i want some cowbells in the song but not all the way through, but run out of tracks. if i move my recorded cowbells onto an existing drum pattern it doesnt play.
