NanoStudio V1.30 is now out for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Windows and OS X!
ATTENTION : Some users have reported a problem with V1.30 where NanoStudio is stuck in portrait mode after updating from V1.21. To avoid this problem, here's what you should do BEFORE YOU UPDATE:
- Start V1.21
- On the MANAGE/Settings page, uncheck (disable) the option 'Lock Orientation'
- Close NanoStudio by clicking the home button
The Windows and OS X versions are available from the Downloads page, along with the PDF manual:
http://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/download.php
There's also a new version of NanoSync, which fixes a couple of fairly minor but long-standing bugs.
The iOS versions are of course available from the app store. I spotted a couple of minor bugs with them, both on the TRG-16's edit page on the iPad:
- Mute button behaviour is slightly screwy due to a last minute change I made (I'll never learn!)
- Pad name text can overflow its allotted area of the screen control (near the top with the left/right buttons)
Neither of these were worth holding up the release for, but I'll probably do a V1.31 release in a week or two as a chance to fix anything else that might come up in the meantime.
Fantastic! I am using this just now and it is awesome.
oh geezzzz that means I gotta go out and pick up an iPad lol
thanks Matt for your hard work.
Wow looks great.
The lock orientation on the settings page caught me out for a second there, it might be an odd bug as the first time it loaded locked in portrait mode, should have taken a screen shot as it won't go into portrait mode a again.
After all your hard work I hate to have a wish, but I wish there was an easy access to the loop button without having to go into the submenu.
Brilliant work sir.
I just KNEW someone would find that portrait thing. I saw it once about a month ago and tried for an hour to reproduce it - never could.
Now comes the question: Can I *really* hold out for an iPad 3?
I think it was an upgrade thing, sorted it by unlocking orientation and closing the app fully.
The other odd one is when double clicking home once started in portrait, the icons for other programmes appear at the side. That one I do have a screen grab of.
:-D I saw this for some minutes...and i bought a new ipad2 for 30 minutes...what a day :)))))))
Nice work for the iPad interface :)
galaxyexplorer :-))))
@Galaxyexplorer I'm jealous! Like 8 year old boy jealous. YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION.
Mine is Stuck in portrait and can't get it out of it.. it's a iPhone 4 it was docked into the SS25 while I did the upgrade. The main menu button is not visible and doesn't seem to be any way to get it out of portrait mode.. HELP do I have to uninstall and reload it ??
I don't know what's happened here since nothing's changed in this area. I can only think it's something to do with iOS 5 and some preservation of its previous orientation state.
What can you actually see on the screen?
My first suggestion would be to close down the app fully (ie. by double tapping on the home button and deleting it from the 'recent/background apps' bar). Then, try starting it up again in one of the various orientations to see if you can get it out of this state.
I can think up a way of probably solving this using iExplorer, but it's not very pretty.
No thats ok I didn't have anything on the iPhone 4 as far as projects so I just deleted the app and reinstall with iTunes
the iphone 4 I had just got.. I't was givin to me by my bro as he got the 4S.. everything is ok now. BUt that is some weird
S&*t eh ? BTW iPhone Explorer I have never got to work on my machine for any lenth of time it just keeps crashing on startup
so I just don't use it anymore...
Thanks Matt For Quick Replay... Update so far looks awesome.. :-)
EDIT: It's not iOS 5... I'm on 4.3 on the iphone 4
EDIT#2: Sorry it is iOS 5 on this iphone 4.. so yeah probably got something to do with that
because I had no trouble with the iTouch that has 4.3 on it..
@syrupcore: I can't wait to the ipad3 or 2s or whatever. I live now!!! ; )
OMG! Santa brought me today a new Nanostudio version! :D
It works like a charm, wonderful! Thanks very much, Santa Matt! ;)
Guys using Retinapad on a jailbreaked iPad for the old version: I unchecked first in the Retinapad-settings Nanostudio.
There's a weird orientation problem on the iPhone which happens sometimes on the iPad, notifications in iOS 5 should scroll down from the top of the app but come from the side. So iOS 5 probably needs to be told somewhere the app is Landscape only.
Ok,it's time to sell my Ipod and buyng an Ipad....dear Santa.......
I'm compiling a list of known issues with V1.30, a couple of annoying ones seem to have emerged so I'll see what I can do about fixing them as soon as possible:
Wow! Suddenly the forum is on fire....
Dont get alarmed for a bug Matt.
Just wanted to say thanks again for your work!
We got what we craved for months for free so just take it slowly with those bugs. ;)
I'm gobsmacked. I've just spent a solid hour on this and I'm blown away. Really impressive.
The extra real estate space on the iPad makes it a wonderful experience.
It's going to be a late night for me.
Awesome update! Every time NS is updated it gets worlds better, and the products it creates equally.
Matt
Thanks for a great update!!
This option allows the music player to continue playing in the background of NanoStudio, rather than NanoStudio continuing to play when IT is put into the background. It's confusing I know, I renamed this option a couple of times and still didn't feel it was clear. I will look at getting NanoStudio to run in the background too at some point.
Ah I just realized what the setting did (I read the help file for the first time :-). It would be great if you could get it to play in background.
Matt could I request that you add Major7 chord to the musical scales if you get a chance. Cheers.
sooo nice on the pad.but some things are on other places.
where is the click in the playback.
Weeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!'
again ;-)
i hear a notely sound difference of my own sampled sounds with buffer latency setting is "high". It seems, that the samples sounds clear, with the setting "very low". Does this setting affect the audio quality?
Update when smoothly for me (running iPad 2 on 5.0.1). Love the look and feel and new workflow tweaks. Honestly, I was a little nervous since I loved using the prior version on the iPad, lower res graphics an all, and was concerned things would get "shrunk" too much. It feels just right and it looks fantastic. Thank you for a great update!
Wow, great update!
Am I being stupid, or are the fx buttons to small to activate in the mixer view when running NS 1.30 on an iPhone? I don't have particularly big fingers. I certainly can't find anywhere else to access the effects chain for each channel anywhere else. Help!
I should add that the update is great in all other respects, even on a 3GS.
@ Liberalquilt: Scroll down in the mixer by using the right hand side scroll handle.
Great, now I can buy an iPad2 :) Cheers Matt
Thanks stiksi
You're welcome :)
Thanks Matt! For this awesome updated! Just got my iPad 2 in October and was so longing for iPad version of Nanostudio. I tried it last night and the apps is wicked!!!! Great work man!!!!
Hi Matt
I guess I agree with everyone who enjoys Nanostudio. I have never seen a developer so committed to their app. Nanostudio was the first serious complete music making app in the store and now has further solidified its position by your hard work with this update. Everything about the new version is amazing, the graphics are sharp, the overall feel is great and for some reason it seems to run even smoother.
I like the fact that there are more notes but the best thing is that all the filters, lfos etc can be had on the screen at the same time and this makes is so much more convenient. It also makes it quicker to do things, the workflow is enhanced and sped up by this.
Overall, it is even much more of a pleasure to use nano now and thank you so much for taking the time to do this. It is highly likely new people will buy up the app and make your hardworking even more worthwhile with some extra Xmas cash:)
It looks and feels even better than laptop software now, I think most of us need not go outside this app unless we want to paste some sounds in, having said that, your stock sounds are great and can be tweaked at will to make them unique.
I reckon you are developer of the year and I cannot help but notice how people treat you on this forum and elsewhere, you have a very successful app that is the staple of any serious music maker who has an idevice. There is no competition really, it is a most stable app and will of course remain that way due to your commitment to it
Thanks once again!
I have to agree with evolutionaryarts here. I wasn't particularly interested in this update, Nanostudio worked and looked well on my iPad in 2X mode. But after upgrading (which was painless for me)... Holy crap! Having all the sound tweaks on one page really simplified my thinking and made sound design so much easier! The workflow is great!
@alley cat
Yes, it's amazing how one simple adjustment on matts part has made things a lot easier. I'm already making good progress on two decent tracks now.
Nanostudio was always a serious app, but the new look makes it much more so, when things are made convenient, it makes for more happy creativity..
Tank you for this great update ! it looks fantastic on the iPad !
You should name this release 'v1.3: one simple adjustment'. :)
Lol.. I hit update button on app store after I looked to see if there is any update for nanostudio but didn't see anything (it's basically the only reason why I check for app store updates as I use the software often) then fell asleep..
Woke up and the interface looks very clean - I like the scale selection and I don't remember mute buttons being there on mixer.. It's awesome :) Thanks Matt!
I don't miss my synths which is bit scary.. the keyboard isn't there but creativity has expanded...
Like someone said above - I need to get ipad 2 or just wait till 3 comes out lol
a step sequencer and a proper arpeggiator would be great. anyways, eveyrone's glad your actively supporting the app! Keep it up!
I know this sound slightly perverse, but I'm missing the old x2 look.
Although the update had allowed an awful lot of more stuff in the screen, I'm now finding that more difficult to see (my eyesight is not that great!). It's actually all the reasons I originally preferred NS on an iPad rather than on the iPhone.
We couldn't have a x2 viewing mode in a future update could we?
Not perverse at all. I use the iPhone and the new vertical zoom feature in song view makes everything so small that I can't see it too well. I have to zoom in anyway. Perhaps the project could remember the zoom position when saved?
BTW iPad 3 will be out soon (probably Feb) and it will have a retina display. So you could run v 1.21 in 2x in HD
>Perhaps the project could remember the zoom position when saved?
Good idea. Ability to change font size would be nice too. :)
Hello Matt, hello Board Members,
I've been using Nanostudio for composition and live performance and think you've created a fantastic product!
But I now have the following problem: in order to perform using my iPad, I need the previous version of this app (that would be Version 1.21).
The new version has many more features and is improved in almost every aspect. But unfortunately even if I use the "Keyboard Setting Wide", I can't perform with it because the keys are now too small for me to play accurately. A backup with iTunes actually saves the older versions under "iTunes Media", "Mobile Applications" ->"NanoStudio ....ipa". Does someone still have the 1.21 version, or a file that wasn't updated? Then I could reinstall it from the backup. I can also confirm my purchase of the app if required.
Thank you for your time,
H.
Thank you thank you!!!! Best app ever :) I'm loving the ability to select a scale. It took me a few minutes to find out how to choose a different key (from C) by changing the Key Transpose on the menu page, but now I'm a happy camper!
As a tone-deaf drummer, I really appreciate the way this reduces the tonal mistakes I make on the piano keyboard. I'm excited again! No more being limited to C Major ;)
Once more - thanks! Nanostudio rocks :) I just can't stop smiling. You have done a great job.

Congratulations Sir Matt.
