Just try the beta this new version is amazing it correct all the few drawback I'v found in the first version.

Just one little suggestion, would it be hard to add the waveshapper effect to the TRG-16?

Anyway many thanks for this incredible software.

So it's possible, or to too to much work?

Thanks

Too much work for the current update certainly - I'm down to final testing and manual writing now and don't want to change anything.

Like so many of these tasks, it'd probably take an hour to get the basic waveshaper effect working on the TRG. But currently there's no more room on the UI for any more buttons or pages so fitting it in in a logical way could potentially be a lot of UI redesign. Then there's performance testing/improvement (bearing in mind there would be 3 of them - one for each bus) and the whole thing would probably take closer to a week. And then I'd probably have to decide if the CPU budget would be better spent on an extra instrument.

I'm not trying to find everything I can think of to argue against doing it - I'm just putting forward all the other considerations that come along with each change. It's frustrating ...

I wonder if extra effects like this would be better done on the mixer page as insert effects, that way they could be switched on/off as needed. The Eden insert effects were deliberately done inside the synth (rather than the mixer) because this brings certain optimisations, but more importantly allows the effects set up to be part of the preset, which is much more useful. The TRG's a little different in this respect maybe.

Thanks for your reply.

I agree effect would be better would better in an insert in the mixer panel.
It's often there in most sequencer and effect are commonly used when mixing.

One little TRG related improvement which would be good would be a "save as" function in the sample editor, so that samples could be chopped up in different ways, without affecting the original sample, and assigned to different pads. Apologies if this already possible, some how!

@Liberalquilt - When you exit the sample editor, say 'yes' when asked if you want to keep your changes and then tap 'New File' to do a save as.

thanks blip! - don't know what I thought new file meant but it didn't even make into my frontal cortex for consideration for some reason. anyway you've just increased my opinion of NS quite considerably, as if it wasn't good enough already!

The button originally said 'Save As' but that seemed a bit weird in some circumstances so I changed it. Whether or not that was a good idea, who knows!

Reading that back now it doesn't really make full sense either. Difficult concept to nail in two words :)

Yeah that's always the problem with buttons - 90 pixels, 10 words!

I still don't like the fact that I can't use my own samples without moving the entire folder (or samples) to the Nanostudio user directory. When I click "finder" I'd expect to be able to select the file I am browsing to; however this is not the case. Any way to change this?

Lastly, this is not so much an issue, but more a "specialty" case. I was trying to find the mixdown folder while using ssh (this is how i transfer samples). What is the directory for the mixdown folder? I've been getting to it by using nanosync for now.

@formal Putting everything in the User directory isn't ideal, but the PC/Mac version is really an emulation of the iPhone version, where everything's expected to be contained in the app's own Documents directory. It'd take some work to get it to understand that files are outside its 'own little world'. The Finder button was a gesture to make life a little easier, so at least you can find where the hell it stores its files!

On the phone you should be able to find the mixdowns under something like Apps/NanoStudio/Documents/User/Mixdowns.

Phonedisk is kinda odd and hard to use. i-Funbox was what I was using and it was easier. I just don't know what directory to go into..

If you want to do it using USB, there's iPhone Explorer which gives you access all the files on your device. It's free, easy to use and you don't need to Jailbreak your iPhone or anything like that:

Some things to be aware of:

- NanoStudio's file path is /Apps/NanoStudio/Documents/User
- Be careful what you delete. Maybe start by just copying all of NanoStudio's Documents folder to somewhere safe on your computer so you have a full backup.
- NanoSync automatically converts samples files to 16 bit 44.1kHz before it uploads to the phone. You will have to ensure that the samples you copy to the phone are already in that format.
